A gladiator had a hard life. They were forces to fight for their life. They fought against animal and against each other. Gladiators were slaves, criminals and Christians. They had to be the last man standing. If a gladiator would fall with the opponent over them, the crowed would vote if the gladiator should kill him. A thumb up meant that the gladiator would kill the man that fell and if the crowed put a thumbs down that meant that the fallen gladiator would live. The gladiator fights were made to make people forget about the problems that were going on. Today in the United States there is a sport that is very similar to those in Rome. It is called wrestling. Although they don’t fight with animals, they do fight with each other. When Wrestle-mania is on we forget about the problems and focus on who will be taken down or first to bleed. This is our gladiators. The ring is our arena and the wrestles are our gladiators. We are entertained by blood shed. We are not than the Romans. As they cheered for the people to kill each other, we cheered for the wrestlers to hurt each other. We are no better than the Romans.
