Geography in Ancient Greece


The seas in Ancient Greece were helpful for traveling and trading. It was also good because people in Greece became good sailors. The land was uneven and rough. There were many mountains. Mountains covered ¾ of the land and divided the country into regions and made it difficult for traveling for city states. The climate in ancient Greece was varied from about 48 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.

Athens vs. Sparta

Athens and Sparta have been competing with each other in a lot. Athens had a better government because of Pericles made the town a better place. He made changes to a lot in Athens. On the other hand Sparta had a better military. They were raised to fight. Sparta trains there citizen boys to learn to fight. They base their life on protecting Sparta. Still Athens has more freedom to think the way they want, and question the things around them, but in Sparta you only learn to fight.

Aristotle Plato Socrates Philosophers

The three philosophers were Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Socrates believed in forcing people to believe in gods and to question the world around them. Socrates was killed because the jury disagreed with his teachings. Plato was one of his students. Plato made a book named, The Republic about his vision of a perfectly governed society. Aristotle was also a student of Socrates. He invented a way of arguing according to the rules of logic.

The Golden Age is a time of peace and prosperity, which means wealth. During the Golden Age of Ancient Greece Pericles ruled. Pericles had 3 specific policies that helped Ancient Greece. He strengthened demy paying the government workers. Pericles also strengthened the Athenian Empire by making the Delian League, which controlled all the city-states. Finally Pericles glorified Athens by hiring artist and architects to build things out of gold, marble, and other precious stones that make the town pretty.
